With support from the Tourism Authority of Thailand, 24 hotels and 11 travel agents banded together to offer special deals available from now until February with eligible stays up to June. A new microsite, “Thailand Super Deal” was launched to provide details.
There are some interesting deals such as Burasari, a boutique hotel in Patong, the offer is 2,000 baht / per person / per night as oppose to their normal rates of 5,000 to 6,000 baht / night. For lower budget, try the Laguna Holiday Club, rates are 2,599 for a 1 bedroom suite. This is perfect for a family holiday, there’s a kitchenette, a proper dining table and a large balcony overlooking the golf course and pool.
This is one of a series of efforts by individual properties, tourist associations, and the Thai tourism industry to lure travelers back to Thailand.

- Bamboo fabric has a natural silky shine and smoothness. It is light, drapes like silk. It’s the new eco silk that is much more durable and affordable.
- Bamboo clothing can be laundered in washers and dryers like most fabrics.
- Bamboo fabric is naturally anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-odour as the fiber inherits the bacteriostatis agent called “bamboo khun”.
- Bamboo clothing is hypoallergenic.
- Bamboo is highly absorbent and wicks water away from the body 3 to 4 times faster than cotton. In warm and humid weather, bamboo clothing helps keep the wearer drier, cooler and more comfortable and doesn’t stick to the skin.
- The structure of bamboo fibers make bamboo fabrics more breathable and thermal regulating than cotton, hemp, wool or synthetic fabrics.
- Bamboo clothing is naturally more wrinkle-resistant than cotton, and while it might still require ironing after washing, bamboo fabric can be ironed at a lower temperature than cotton. Shrinkage during washing and drying is minimal at warm temperatures.
Business travelers starting to demand green lodging
While some hotels are savvy enough to promote their environmental practices, most are not doing enough to satisfy business travelers who are increasingly demanding green accommodations.
More than a third “seek out hotels that are environmentally friendly,” according to a new survey of 1,155 business travelers commissioned by Big Four firm Deloitte. The survey says 38 percent have researched green lodging facilities, while 28 percent say they’re willing to pay 10 percent more for green accommodations.
Business travelers expect hotels to recycle (77 percent), and use energy-efficient lighting and windows (74 percent and 59 percent, respectively). To a lesser extent, they expect hotels to give guests the option of not having sheets and towels changed every day (52 percent). Using environmentally safe cleaning products is expected by 49 percent of those surveyed.
“We found there is often a discrepancy between what travelers expect of hotels and the green initiatives that hotels ultimately undertake,” says Neale Redington of Deloitte. For example, 30 percent say they have asked that linens not be changed, but the hotel laundered them anyway.
The survey suggests hotels should pay closer attention to their environmental practices if they expect to draw business travelers to their doors.
Among some hotel chains, green marketing is the new big thing. New York Times reporter Joe Sharkey wrote that he was awakened at 3 a.m. recently by a blinking red message light on his phone in a Marriott in Marco Island, FL. Upon hearing the message, he was startled to find it was not an urgent business matter, but a “friendly reminder” to close his blackout curtains by 9 p.m. to keep the beach dim during sea turtle mating season.
“More and more business travelers, and especially the younger ones, are discussing these things,” Adam F. Weissenberg, who heads the Deloitte USA hospitality division, said in the Times. “This is not a passing fad. And for the younger generation, this is huge stuff.”

True Corp., a major telecommunications and lifestyle company, selected Silkroad to create, design, and produce a range of eco friendly gift items for True gift program 2008; after sorting through 4 bids from leading design house and ad agencies.
True Corp. wanted to tap into Silkroad’s expertise and experience in design and product development to create a truly exciting range of eco aware gifts. And it must reflect their brand image as a purveyor of social responsibility leading the way in the now popular eco movement. Silkroad’s job was to create a compelling campaign concept through development of an icon along with a bold and exciting product line . The gifts are to be eco friendly and encourage eco awareness. Silkroad was well positioned to create this overall campaign involving creation of marketing ideas, designing campaign icon, and researching eco materials.
After thorough research, we decided on using bamboo fabric as the centerpiece of this ground breaking campaign. Our design team had created an Icon to communicate a message that eco ideas can be connected. Our product development team meanwhile had shortlisted a range of items using bamboo fabric and bamboo materials. The designs are then merged to create a truly ‘green’ range of gifts.
Production is now finished and our client, True Corp., is very excited to start launching this range starting this week.

Amatapura, Krabi’s first luxury villa development, recently inked a deal for Silkroad to supply luxurious bamboo fabric bath robes. Aiming to set itself apart from other luxury villa projects dotted along Phuket and Krabi, the owners wanted to use amenities and materials which are expressive to their vision. Their choice of bamboo fabric robes is a wise one even though it is about 30% more expensive than traditional cotton bath robes.
Bamboo fabric is the darling of the new eco fabric, some call it a silky cotton. Famous fashion designers around the world have taken to like this silky, yet sturdy fabric. The fabric is processed from bamboo plant, inheriting its wonderful properties along the way. It is 3 to 4 times more absorbent than cotton. For warm, tropical weather like Thailand, bamboo is a perfect fabric as it is cooler and more comfortable, not sticking to the skin. Bamboo is naturally anti-bacterial, keeping the fabric dry and clean even during a hot summer tropical day.
Amatapura is scheduled to open December 2008. Silkroad is both excited and proud to be a part of their vision to provide superior accessories in their luxury villas. We can’t wait to see how their guests will be impressed with the bath robes.
